It all started one night when I was sitting in bed studying for a quiz in my electronic circuits lab, EE3480. In my reading, I happened across the word ``concomitant'' used in such a manner that made it impossible to deduce the meaning of the sentence without knowing the definition of the word.

``This is ridiculous!'' I proclaimed to my roommate as I launched the lab manual over the side of my bed. ``There is no way anyone should be expected to know what that word means.'' Over the next few days, I encountered the word not fewer than three times in literature ranging from a journal article on ohmic contacts to some article in a magazine.

While atoning for the bad thoughts I had about the lab manual's author, it occurred to me that it would be really ironic if concomitant appeared on the GRE and I got it because I read it in the lab manual. Then it occurred to me that if I made the effort to lookup up at least one in every ten words that I didn't know, I could really augment my vocabulary. So, here we are!
