Bergschrund near Hog's Back

This bergschrund (a crevasse formed where a glacier pulls away from the mountain) illustrates the icy demise that awaits the hapless climber who missteps while traversing the glaciers atop Hood. To avoid plummeting to our death if by chance we were to fall into a bergstrund or crevasse, our group travelled in a roped party. If one member of the team falls, the others immediately drop to the snow, bury their ice axes, and arrest the fallen climber.

To get a perspective on how big this thing is, check out the climbers in the upper left hand corner!
